Artworld – Sarala’s Art Centre was established in 1965 and is one of the oldest galleries in
India. For the first 20 years, the gallery single-handedly established and promoted contemporary art
in the Southern region. Since its inception, Artworld has been associated with some of the greatest
artists of the country, as well as promoted many young and upcoming artists of the country. Artworld
has curated a series of important shows in The Pao Galleries – Hong Kong, The Art Museum Ginza –
Tokyo, The Raffles Hotel – Singapore, Gallery Quadrivium – Sydney, The National gallery of Modern Art
– Kuala Lampur, The University Museum – Penang, Wein and Kunst Gallery – Essen (Germany), Paris
and Denmark.
Artworld put together for the first time a Retrospective Exhibition of the well known artist
Paritosh Sen, spanning 60 years of his work and exhibited the travelling retrospective in New Delhi,
Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore and Chennai. Two significant publications on the artist were published as
well as a video documentary on the artist.
Having conducted significant Art workshops in various locations with some of the most
prominent artists of the country, Artworld also curated an exhibition and auction for charity in Chennai
which was auctioned by Bonham’s, UK. The gallery has contributed significantly over the years in curating
auctions for various charities.
Artworld has been consulted by various Interior Designers, Corporates and Multinationals for
the acquisition of Art for their interiors. The gallery is in the process of constructing an International
Residency for artists in Kodaikanal on 20 acres of land which it has acquired over the years.
