Amitabh Sen Gupta (b. 1941)
A graduate in Painting from Govt. College of Arts and Crafts, Kolkata, in 1963,
Amitabh received a prestigious French Government Scholarship in Printmaking
and Painting to study at Ecole des Beaux-Arts, Paris 1966-68.
He has held Solo Shows during this period at Galerie des Beaux-Arts, Paris and
at Cité International de Paris, 1967 and ‘68. Amitabh has also exhibited in the
International show of the Salon d’Automne in Paris, 1968. He has done his Ed.M. at
the State University of New York at Buffalo under AICE-UNESCO Fellowship 1979-
81. He has also worked in Nigeria as the Head of Visual Arts in two Universities in
1976-87. He has been listed as Art Advisor with the Federal Universities in Nigeria
and with the UNESCO in Paris, 1986-87. His solo shows during this period were
Owerri, 1979; Enegu, Lagos and Port Harcourt, 1986.
Amitabh is the recipient of the All India Award in Painting, Academy of Fine
Arts, Kolkota and President’s Award from AIFACS 1975. He is also the Founder
President of Art Trust, Kolkota. He has exhibited extensively in groups around the
world in the last 20 years, notably in the Far East, Europe, Africa and US. His works
are represented in various major collections around the world. Besides painting
he also works in digital graphics and video art. He also writes, makes short films &
and researches subjects of his interest.
