Tapas Ghosal (b. 1965)
Tapas graduated in Painting with a First Class First from Govt. College of Art &
Craft, Kolkata, 1989; and post graduate in Painting from Benaras Hindu University,
Varanasi (First Class).
His Varanasi works reflect a temporal and spiritual dimension. The pastel shaded
images are semblances of an isolated image of what the artist perceives beneath
the bustling activities there. His current series of paintings create meditative
structural spaces, melancholic in nature which enter into the inner realm of reality
and extract a kind of mystic, melodic silence.
Tapas’ solo shows include – The Centre Art Gallery, Kolkata, ABC Art Gallery,
Varanasi, Art ‘N’ Soul, New Delhi; he has participated in several group shows
like All India Annual Art Exhibition, Academy of Fine Arts, Autumnal Applause,
presented by Gallery Katayun, Kolkata, “Tradition and Paradigm” presented by
Oncidiem Art Gallery.
He has been awarded for Best Exhibit in Drawing from West Bengal State Govt,
Jamini Roy Birth Centenary Award, Kolkata, Gold Plaque for Best Exhibit, 2nd
All India Art Exhibition, Varanasi. His collections are in Corporate and Private
Collections in India, USA, Dubai and UK.
