L. Muniswamy (b.1927)

With a Diploma in Painting from the Government College of Arts and Crafts,Chennai, in 1953, Muniswamy became an art instructor there; he studied GraphicArt at Bournemouth U.K, and later became Principal at his college.Much decorated over the years, this senior artist has received Government ofIndia Cultural Scholarship for Research in Painting; Scholarship under Colomboplan to study Graphic Art, Bournemouth UK; National Award, Lalit Kala Akademi,New Delhi; Tamil Nadu State Academy Award, Madras; Fellowship, Tamil NaduOvia Nun Kalai Kuzhu, Madras; Senior Fellowship, Ministry of Human ResourceDevelopment, Government of India, New Delhi; Emeritus Fellowship Ministry ofHuman Resource Development, Government of India, New Delhi.Muniswamy has participated in many solo & group shows and camps, notably ThreeIndian Artists organized by the British Council, Madras 1985; Alliance Francaisede Madras, 1985- Retrospective exhibition, The British Deputy High Commission,Madras; 2005- Manifestations III, organized by Delhi Art Gallery, Nehru Centre,Mumbai and Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi; ; and featured in ContemporaryIndian Art Series – L.Munuswamy, published by Lalit Kala Academy, New Delhi. His works are in many collections the world over – National Gallery of ModernArt, New Delhi; Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi; State Lalit Kala Academy; ChennaiNational Art Gallery, Chennai; Bharath Bhavan, Bhopal; Tamil University, Tanjavur;Osian’s Archive & Library Collection, Mumbai; Delhi Art Gallery, New Delhi, etc.
