Venkatapathy (b. 1935)

Trained in fresco painting at Banasthali Vidyapith, Rajasthan, and later with aDiploma in painting, Government School of Arts and Crafts, Chennai in 1967,Venkatapathy embarked on a profusely fertile career in painting.He was one ofthe pioneering artists at the Cholamandal Artists’ Village, Chennai. He has beenrecipient of the Silver Medal of the South Indian Society of Painters,; was awardedSilver Medal by Academy of Fine Arts, Calcutta; exhibited at the Tamil Nadu StateLalit Kala Academy, Chennai frequently; and received the Award of the Tamil NaduState Lalit Kala Academy, 1966.Venkatapathy exhibited from 1967 to 1972 at Cholamandal Artists’ Villageexhibition sponsored by UNICEF, New Delhi; Robin Hood International, 27th Annual exhibition, Sydney, Australia; the Asia Pacific Museum, Poland in 1982;VIIth Triennale India, Lalit Kala Academy, New Delhi, 1991. He was honored withthe Award of the Karnataka Chitrakala Parishad, Bengaluru in 1992 and in 1996,received Silver Plate as a veteran artist of India by All India Fine Arts and CraftsSociety. He also participated in the show organized for the veteran artists. In2003, Venkatapathy was nominated as an eminent artist member of the Lalit KalaAkademi, New Delhi.
