K. R. Harie (b. 1941)

Even as a student, K R Harie won the Madras State Award in Textile Design, andexhibited at the All India Art Exhibition, Mysore Dasara Exhibition, Mysore. Hewent on to complete his Diploma in Applied Arts, Government College of Arts &Crafts, Chennai in 1966.He was a prolific painter, took part in the State Art Exhibition, Madras StateLalit Kala Academy; The Progressive Painters Association Exhibition held at theGovernment College of Arts & Crafts, Chennai. All India Exhibition between 1966and 68. Harie was among the first artists to move into Cholamandal. Well knownfor his painting skills with pen and ink, he went on to win the Tamil Nadu OviaNunkalai Kuzhu award.His career highlights include exhibiting at Hyderabad Art Society, Hyderabad,1966, All India Exhibition, Academy of Fine Arts, Kolkata. (’68, `69, `72 and`74);“Contemporary miniatures” in Progressive Painters Association, Chennai andMumbai, 1972; All India Exhibition of Prints, Group- 08, New Delhi.( also in `73,`74, `76); “Indian Art since the early 40’s- a search for identity” – CholamandalGallery,Chennai, 1974; Chitra Kala Parishad, Bengaluru (‘76, `88); “40 Artists”from Chennai, organized by British Council, Chennai, ’78; Cholamandal ArtistsGroup show held in Lalit Kala Academy, Chennai, ’82 and being elected Joint Hon.Secretary, Artists Handicrafts Association, Cholamandal Artsists Village, Chennai.(1982, `83 and`95).
