The first Galerie 88 was opened in Kolkata in 1988. Over the last twenty-two years it has
expanded its activity in Kolkata by adding two more gallery spaces to the existing one and has also
opened its branch in Colaba in South Mumbai with 4000 sq ft of gallery space. It has, during this period,
organized nearly 200 shows including the art work of all the current important artists of India and have
also curated several important art shows in London, Fecamp near Paris, Hongkong and Singapore.
Artists represented by Galerie 88 include M F Husain, S H Raza, F N Souza, Krishna Reddy,
Somnath Hore, Ganesh Pyne, Bikash Bhattacharya, Lalu Shaw, Badri Narayn and Laxma Goud. Galerie
88 devotes effort and equal intensity in promoting the Gen Next of Indian Contemporary Art , which
includes Paresh Maity, Chittrovanu Mazumdar, S Harsha Vardhan, Chandra Bhattacharjee, Partha Shaw,
Anupam Chakraborty, Mithu Sen, Samit Das, Riyas Komu and Kanchan Dasgupta.
Galerie 88 has its own publication program and has, over the last decade, published quite a
large number of researched catalogues and books on art of India today.
Galerie 88 has also recently been chosen by leading corporate houses to curate special art
shows on selected themes, both in India and abroad.
