P. Gopinath (b. 1948)
After a Diploma in Painting from Govt. College of Arts and Crafts, Chennai in1966, Gopinath embarked upon two parallel quests: One, the achievement of pureplastic order, form order and the other, relating to nature. His work has alwaysbeen related to Nature and the environment. The aesthetics of his multimedia artspells reductive imagery derived from his experiences of meditative silence andcontemplative ambience; and the myriad influences of eastern and western art.Simple powerful lines, stylized imagery and bright expressive colors distinguish hiscompositions.Gopinath has been awarded by the State Lalit Kala Academy, Tamil Nadu; wasnominated as Eminent Artist, Lalit Kala Akademi New Delhi and represented Indiaas Commissioner International Festival of Painting, France.He has exhibited widely.
