R. M. Palaniappan (b.1957)
An alumnus of the Govt. College of Arts Crafts, Chennai with Fine Arts Paintingsand Post graduate with Industrial Design Ceramics, he studied advancedLithography in Tamarind Institute (USA) in 1991 and was the Artist in Residenceat the Oxford University in 1996. He was a recipient of several awards, honoursand residencies including the Fulbright Grant, Charles Wallace India TrustGrant, International Visitorship program of USIS, and Senior Fellowship, Govt.of India.He has received rare honors: National Award, President of India’s Silver Plaque,RAZA Foundation for Visual Arts and International Prints Biennales of Bhopal andTaiwan. His works are included in many important auctions including Christie’s,Sotheby’s, Osian’s and Bonhams and Bid &Hammer.He has participated in numerous international prints exhibitions and importantnational level curated exhibitions by invitation; held 25 one man shows acrossthe country globe; curated several exhibitions including ‘Major Trends in IndianArt’, the special exhibition organized by the Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi tocommemorate the Golden Jubilee of India’s independence in 1997; and alsoserved as International Commissioner in 1995 and international Jury member in2008 for Bharat Bhavan International Prints Biennale, also a jury member in theNational Exhibition of Art , 1995 and 2008. His works are in prestigious collectionsand galleries the world over. He is currently Regional Secretary of the Lalit KalaAkademi, Chennai.
