V. Viswanadhan (b. 1940)
Viswanadhan studied at the Madras School of Arts under K.C.S Paniker and wasone of the founders of Cholamandal artist’s village in 1966. He traveled to Europein 1968, and in 1970, held his first exhibition at Galerie de France in Paris. He has had over 50 exhibitions in museums and galleries throughout the world, among them the Centre Pompidou in 1985, Retrospective in NGMA, New Delhiand Marlborough Gallery in 2008.Within the context of contemporary Indian art, often concerned by figurativerealism, Viswanadhan stands out as a unique artist. In the West, the AbstractExpressionists sought their inspiration in Eastern philosophy. Viswanadhan, inversely, looks for the mysterious and miraculous affinity between Western abstraction anda continual search for matter and meaning which progressively synthesized intogeometric harmonies of color and light.
