Palaniappan (b.1957)

With a Diploma in Fine Arts (Painting and post-Diploma in Industrial Designfrom the College of Arts, Chennai), he studied advanced Lithography at TamarindInstitute (USA) (1991) and was the Artist in Residence at the Oxford University(1996). He has held several solo exhibitions in India, UK, USA and Holland; takenpart in numerous group shows and international shows at home and Singapore,Korea, Syria, Canada, Holland, Mexico, Cuba, the USA, Finland, Taiwan, France,Hawaii, Japan and Spain and visited on grants and scholarships Germany, England,the USA, France and Australia and held workshops in print making on invitation.He has curated many important shows including the ‘Major Trends in Indian Art’ onthe occasion of the Golden Jubilee celebration of India’s Independence, served asInternational Commissioner in 1995 and member of the international Jury in 2008for Bharat Bhavan International Prints Biennale, 1995 and 2008; and was a memberof the jury in the National Exhibition of Art, 2008. A recipient of several awards,honors and residencies including the Fulbright Grant, Charles Wallace India Trustgrant, International Visitorship Program of USIS, and Senior Fellowship, Govt. ofIndia, he is currently the Regional Secretary of Lalit Kala Akademi, Chennai.
