Shalini Biswajit (b. 1965)
Shalini Biswajit is a painter, sculptor and Director of Forum Art Gallery. She hasa University First Master’s in Fine Arts from Stella Maris College, Chennai, afterwhich she studied at New York School of Interior Design. This exposure ultimatelylead to the birth of Forum Art Gallery in 1997.Shalini has exhibited her works widely in India, and abroad. Some selected soloand group shows that she has participated in are ‘Perspective’, Alliance Francaise,Chennai 1998, Salon de Printemps 2002,2003, 2005 Lyon, France ‘Reclaimed’,Forum Art Gallery and The British Council, Chennai, 2004, ‘The Feminine Eye’,Galerie Sara Arakkal, Bangalore, 2005 ,’Women@rt, Forum Art Gallery, Chennai,2006, ‘WoManEyes’, Forum Art Gallery, Chennai and The Nehru Centre, London,2007, ‘WoManEyes’ Sutra Gallery, Kuala Lumpur, 2007, ‘The Madras Canvas Iand II’, Forum Art Gallery, Chennai 2007, 2008, ‘Detached Attachment’, ViennaVirginia,2008, ‘Feminine ‘I’, Art Space the gallery , Kuala Lumpur 2009. The MadrasCanvas at ICC India Cultural Centre Kuala Lumpur 2010, Present in the Past, Tajmount Road Chennai 2010 Ever at Rest, solo show at Kalakriti Gallery Hyderabad,2010 and Art Bazaar, New York 2011.Shalini has illustrated a children’s book too.Her paintings and sculpture can be seen in public collections all over Tamil Nadu.At Forum Art Gallery, Shalini has curated more than 70 shows from 2002 andtakes art closer to people through workshops, art and craft classes, symposiumsand art therapy sessions.An outdoorsy adventurer, her recently trek to The Everest Base Camp andKala Pattar trek in Nepal inspired the Ever at Rest series. Shalini lives with hercartoonist husband Biswajit Balasubramanian in Chennai.
